- The Detroit Youth Classic was conceived in 2015
- It is the brain child of Deji Adebiyi and Bill George
- The two Detroiters met in College at Ohio Wesleyan University and decided to bring their two companies (3L1T3 and Voltage Elite) together to create something special for the youth of Detroit in the life-long sport of golf
- Most of the focus and resources from the two companies were dedicated to Detroit Youth Sports and Detroit Community Projects over the next 5 years
- Deji and Bill continued to grow the network and kept the idea of the Detroit Youth Classic alive
- Finally, due to COVID lockdowns, 3L1T3 pivoted to keep the community growing, and brought the sport of golf to the forefront by establishing Detroit.Golf
- 2021 saw the vision start to manifest itself in reality as Detroit.Golf and the EGA Tour hosted the inaugural Detroit Youth Classic
- This initial event only included an adult flight of players, but provided the financial foundation and support group to make the event a reality in 2022
- Nick Ludka began his domination in the Adult Flight winning the first of his 3 titles (in 3 total appearances!)
- 2022 breathed full life into The Detroit Youth Classic as Cass Tech and Renaissance High Schools both competed in the Youth Flight alongside other local youth golfers
- 4th Grader Dayton Reid continued his local domination of the youth mini-tours and showed the field that you don’t have to be in high school, to beat high schoolers (or adults) at golf
- The Cass Tech Girls Golf Team won States!
- College golfers from Michigan State and Kalamazoo College have stepped up to help coach kids and show them how to play tournament golf
